HAMPTON, Va. - With authority, the Hampton University Pirates showed the Howard Bison who the real HU is.

Behind the rushing of Rian Thompson (116 yards and three touchdowns) and passing of Timothy Frazier (118 yards) the Pirates dealt Howard a 51-2 beating last night in front of 19,021 at Hampton's Armstrong Stadium.

Hampton has won the last six games in the series.

"We had a lot of mistakes in the first half," said Howard coach Ray Petty, whose team committed four turnovers. "We were just not focused at all in the first half."

The Pirates capitalized on the Howard turnover, as they drove 72 yards before Thompson's 1-yard run gave the Pirates an early 7-0 lead with 8:40 left in the period.

After Travis Oliver intercepted a Clark pass, Jerome Mathis increased Hampton's lead to 14-0 with a 14-yard TD run at the 2:56 mark.

Later in the period, the Pirates recorded a safety after punter Vaughn Waters bobbled a Tralan Andrews snap in the end zone. …
