Choirs from seven Lake County schools will perform in the Libertyville-Vernon Hills area school district's Fall Choir Festival.

Students from Hawthorn Middle School, Hawthorn Junior High School, Oak Grove Elementary School, Rondout Elementary School, Highland Middle School, Libertyville High School and Vernon Hills High School will perform in the show, which will be held Oct. 17 in the Libertyville High gymnasium.

The Hawthorn Middle School team consists of 26 fifth- and sixth- graders. The young singers are excited about the upcoming show, Principal Bill Sigler said.

"It's an opportunity for them to shine and show what they can do, and to get the recognition they so richly enjoy," Sigler said.

The festival will feature the work of guest clinician Rollo Dilworth, an assistant professor of music and director of choral activities and music education at the North Park University School of Music in Chicago.

The choirs will perform two pieces by Dilworth, who also serves as minister of music at Martin Temple African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church in Chicago. One of the songs will be a gospel piece.

"I think it's great that they're being exposed to this kind of music," Hawthorn Junior High choir teacher Suzanne Jozwiak said. "And to have him there and show us how it's really done will be great for us teachers, too."

The festival will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are $3 for adults and $1 for students and senior citizens.
