Cox played the role of the urbane killer in the original 1986 film Manhunter. However, when Silence Of The Lambs (1990) was being cast, the role went instead to Hopkins. He has since reprised the role in Hannibal and Red Dragon. Cox, meanwhile, has two new films out - The Rookie and SuperTroopers.

BACKGROUND: 8/10. Philip Anthony Hopkins was born in Port Talbot, Wales. At 17, he joined a junior drama club after meeting idol Richard Burton, which convinced him he wanted to be an actor.

PSYCHOPATH OR PUSSYCAT? 8/10. He got his first big screen break starring in the 1968 film The Lion In Winter with Katherine Hepburn and Peter O'Toole. Since then, he has appeared in numerous films, most notably The Remains Of The Day, Shadowlands, Nixon and Silence Of The Lambs. However, Bad Company, Titus, Legend Of The Fall and Meet Joe Black all flopped at the box office. His most famous role to date is that of Dr Hannibal Lecter, which is ironically the role that Hopkins is scared of being remembered for. He says, Red Dragon will be his last Hannibal film.

EAT YOU FOR BREAKFAST? 6/10. Hopkins has American citizenship and currently lives in Los Angeles. Since divorcing his second wife, Jennifer, he has been dating Stella Arroyaye who is 20 years his junior. Hopkins has been a reformed alcoholic since 1975 and still regularly attends AA meetings. Hopkins received the honour of a knighthood in 1994, but likes to be called Anthony or Tony rather than "Sir". …
