Article excerpt

It's not a day most people have circled on their calendars.

But National Depression Screening Day, which is Thursday, could be marked as a positive turning point for those who get help for their anxiety or depression.

Two Tri-Cities organizations will offer free screenings on Thursday:

- Suicide Prevention Services: The Batavia-based agency will have free depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder screenings from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The screenings will be offered at Stone Manor, 528 S. Batavia Ave. (Route 31) Batavia; West Towns Human Services, 76 N. Main St., Sugar Grove; and Kendall County Health and Human Services, 500 Countryside Shopping Center, Yorkville.

Children, adolescents and adults can be screened, and bilingual services are available. Walk-ins are welcome Thursday, and appointments are taken at (630) 482-9699.

Suicide Prevention Services also offers free and confidential depression screenings by appointment to the public year-round.

Warning signs that a screening might be helpful include: concern about self or loved one and feelings of sadness and/or tiredness that are interfering with daily functioning; anxiety; disturbed sleeping and/or eating patterns; and thoughts of suicide. …
