Buffalo 87, Howard 81

DURHAM, N.C. - Howard's Asia Petty scored a game-high 34 points, eclipsing the 1,000-point plateau for her career, but the Bison lost to the Bulls in the consolation game of the Duke Classic at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Hollie Cook scored 16 points to lead Buffalo.

Courtney Kirk had 23 points and Daisha Hicks added 14 for Howard.

The Bulls (3-1) outscored Howard 17-11 over the final 5:13 to secure the win.

"It was a tough loss. It was a hard fought game," Howard coach Cathy Parson said. "We're under a lot of stress. I have two starters out with injury, and another player at home. We're sort of waiting to get back, so we're sort of down, but I felt with all that said, with all the adversity we've faced this weekend, with not having heat in our hotel, with just so many things, I felt we gave it a good effort."

The Bison went on a 13-2 run to take a 62-58 lead with just under 10 minutes to play.

Buffalo reclaimed the lead at 5:23 on a pair of free throws by Erin Lawrenson. …
