HOLIDAY HOTSPOTS; Midlanders Join Rush for Trips to Volcanoes

SOME like it hot. And now there's a Midland company that's offering unique breaks for holidaymakers who want to go with the flow.

The lava flow, that is. Volcanic Experiences, of Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, has been hit by an eruption of clients who want to explore volcanoes, many of them still active.

A trip to Hawaii in April - new for 2003 - costing pounds 1,450 per person is already fully booked.

And among the volcano-crazy clients are some who have been on all five tours offered by the firm.

The trips, which include direct flights from the UK and good quality accommodation and meals, are to: Sicily and the Aeolian Islands in Italy (in May and costing pounds 660 per person) which takes in a visit to Etna, offering the possibility of seeing active lava flows. Later, there is a trip to the island of Vulcano, which gave volcanoes their name, with the chance to bathe in bubbling mud pools and hot springs.

The highlight of the week is an excursion to Stromboli which sends out a fountain of lava every few minutes. The volcano is climbed at dusk to enable the eruptions to be seen at their most spectacular.
