Doctor Named to Latrobe Municipal Authority

As chief of internal medicine at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital, Randall C. Cook said he places a high priority on communicating with his patients.

"Being a physician, it's important for me to communicate, and I think I do that as well as anybody," said Cook, 49.

That trait helped end seven months of gridlock on Latrobe City Council concerning who should replace Shirley Marckioni on the city's municipal authority, as council voted 7-0 to appoint Cook to the post for a term to expire Jan. 31, 2007. The decision was met with applause from about 30 audience members.

"I think Dr. Cook will be very valuable to the municipal authority, so I'm looking forward to seeing him at our council meetings and giving us reports and updates," said Latrobe Mayor Tom Marflak.

Cook said he hopes to bring some of his background in biological sciences to the city's water-treatment process.

"I thank you for your support, and I hope we can all work together and make the whole thing work well," Cook said.

Council remains divided on a replacement for Deputy Mayor Neal Fenton on the Latrobe/Unity/Youngstown Parks & Recreation Commission. Again, Marflak nominated Councilman Jack Murtha for a term to expire Jan. 31, 2009. …
