On Saturday, the little town of Dunbar will be big on excitement as the community gears up for its annual festival.

The sixth annual Dunbar Community Fest will start at 8 a.m. and continue throughout the day.

"We try to plan a nice event where people from all over the area can come and enjoy," Community Fest committee Chairwoman Cindy Moag said. "We try to have a little something for everyone."

The fest also is a one-day fundraiser for local organizations and businesses.

"All local organizations and groups keep what they make at the fest," Moag said. "It's a good chance for them to make extra money for the year."

One such event will be the bicycle poker run sponsored by the Dunbar Volunteer Fire Department.

"This is a lot of work for us, but it is still beneficial because it gives us the chance to make some money," firefighter John Maddas said. "This is something that has proven to be very successful for the entire community."

Monies generated from the entry fee will help to pay for the new Ford 550 mini-pumper truck the department recently acquired.

Fire department members and their families also will be barbecuing throughout the day, offering half chickens, hamburgers, hot dogs, wings and hot sausage.

"We really want to thank the people who have supported us over the years, and we hope that that support continues," Maddas said.

The annual event kicks off with the Pechin 5K run/walk at 8 a.m. Twelve age groups will compete, and the top three male and female racers will be awarded prizes.

A volleyball tournament will be held throughout the day at the Dunbar Little League field. The annual parade will be held in the streets of the town.

Train rides by the Fayette Central Railroad will be offered all day, and the annual car, truck and bike show will be on display throughout the afternoon.

Entertainment will feature the Little Miss and Col. Dunbar contest, and different musical groups.

"We are doing a skit this year when the band takes intermission," Moag explained. …
