As part of the Mid-Mon Valley All Sports Hall of Fame festivities, senior student-athletes from eight local high schools will be honored.

The 2008 Hall of Fame banquet and induction ceremony will take place 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Willow Room in Rostraver.

Students are chosen by athletic directors and principals to be recognized for their accomplishments and awarded a certificate of merit by the Sports Hall of Fame Committee.

The award reflects personal dedication to achieving the highest standards of excellence as a scholar and as an athlete.

"This event bonds generations of area athletes by bringing together the past generation of Hall of Fame recipients with the present generation of athletes at the banquet," said Stephen Russell, hall of fame general chairman.

The bond is represented in the seating arrangement. Scholar- athletes sit on a tier below the hall of fame inductees, representing the students' goal to achieve what the hall of fame personalities have accomplished.

The first student-athlete honored who went on to be inducted into the hall of fame was Monessen basketball standout Gina Naccarato. She was honored in 1996 and inducted in 2005. An assistant coach at Monessen under legendary head coach Major Corley, Naccarato went on to enjoy a fine collegiate playing career at Duquesne University.

Members of the 2008 fall of fame class are James "Kayo" Adamson, John Hewitt, Gary Hogan, Joe Kurey, Billy Russell, Donna DeMarino Sanft, Robert "Red" Worrell and John Wozniak. Adamson, Worrell and Wozniak will be inducted posthumously. Sports writer Robert Petriello of Brownsville will receive the annual achievement award. …
