Pretty in Pink

Article excerpt

Our Three Rivers saw more than its usual quota of beautiful people on Saturday evening as 360 hot-to-trotters waltzed down the satin pink carpet and right into the Civic Light Opera Guild's "Legally Pink"-themed Pink Frolic Ball, a jaw-dropping cotton candy- esque paradise that knocked our stilettos off and had us tickled, well, you know what.

Little black dresses were left hanging lonely in our closets in favor of gowns that glittered in every shade of the rainbow, with our best accessory being our monochromatic plus-ones hanging on our arms -- and resulting in a whiplash-inducing hubbub that lasted throughout the cocktail reception.

Dinner bell chiming (and necks sufficiently strained), we filed into the ballroom of the Omni William Penn, where the collective "oohing" and "aahing" indicated we were about to go into sensory overload. Talk about eye candy! We pulled out our satin-draped chairs at good-enough-to-eat candlelit tables that sparkled with sequined, bubble-gum-hued Lendable Linens, adorned with whimsical centerpieces of gerbera daisies, pink and white hydrangeas, and hot pink roses intertwined with feather boas from Blooms that were so delicious they made our stomachs growl.

As we succumbed to the first of our impeccably served, mouth- watering four courses, the CLO Mini Stars set the stage on fire with their high-energy performance that left no doubt we'd soon be clamoring for autographs amidst other adoring fans. Already on our feet, we continued our thunderous applause as Mary Rodgers Guettel presented composer and lyricist extraordinaire (and CMU grad) Stephen Schwartz with the Richard Rodgers Award for Excellence in Musical Theater. Schwartz's brilliance on Broadway has earned him four Grammys, three Oscars, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and an upcoming induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Oh, it would have been a crime to miss this one, my little starlets! Not a care in the world as Dreamscape kept our hips twisting and soles spinning, leaving us to wonder how life could possibly get any sweeter....that is, of course, until emcee Mike Clark put the cherry on top of this spectacular soiree.

"I wanted to let you all know that the Pens just celebrated a 4- 3 victory in overtime!"

Don't you dare pinch us; we're still dreaming!

Fashionably Lunched

"We're going to see men in this fashion show, which is exciting!" We laughed so hard we nearly cried in our coffee during the Ladies Hospital Aid Society's luncheon and fashion show on Wednesday at the Fox Chapel Golf Club, where emcee Sally Wiggin had us unraveling at the seams with her witty one-liners.

But it wasn't just the fantabulous ensembles (and models) floating down the catwalk that gave us something to talk about; the room was abuzz with excitement surrounding the annual gala on Aug. …
