Gov. Ed Rendell is in full revisionist history mode. The lame- duck guv quacked to the Trib last week that if not for the expansion of gambling, the Pittsburgh Penguins would have been in Kansas City. Why, "the Kansas City Penguins won the Stanley Cup" in 2009, his bill flapped. Does Fast Eddie really think the public is that stupid? As one wag reminded after reading the unchallenged statement, "I guess he did not hear that (team owner) Mario Lemieux admitted his Kansas City visit was a ruse and there was never a chance the team would be heading to Missouri." ...

The United Auto Workers union will begin a campaign next month to organize hourly factory workers at foreign-owned car plants in the United States. President Bob King says the UAW is "a 21st-century union" that's "committed to the success of these employees." There's just one teensy-weensy problem here -- auto workers can have no success if there are no auto companies to work for -- because the unions killed them all off. ...

Speaking of unions, the cartel representing drivers and mechanics at the Port Authority of Allegheny County says it opposes spreading over 18 months that $45 million state bailout of the mass-transit agency. In typical union fashion, Amalgamated Transit Union Local 85 boss Pat McMahon wants the money spent over the next six months to execute a twofer -- avoid transit cuts while pressuring "the state" to throw even more money down the rathole. "It's our money and we want to blow it now," you can almost hear Mr. McMahon arrogantly shouting out of a window, can't you? Oh, that clicking sound you just heard? That was state legislative leaders plugging in their electric screwdrivers in advance of delivering a message of their own to Pat McMahon, if you catch the drift. …
