HAMDEN » When Steve Ross moved his restaurant to Hamden last year, the town seemed divided, he said.

That's why Ross, 34, co-owner of Cast Iron Soul Restaurant, 1012 Dixwell Ave., said he was willing to open his doors for today's community conversation to hear from residents.

The event, sponsored by the Register, will take place from 11 a.m. to noon. I will serve as moderator.

"We are new to the community and we wanted to open our doors to introduce ourselves to the town and acquaint ourselves with members of the community," said Ross, whose wife, Shayla, also is a co- owner of the restaurant.

"We never knew there was a south Hamden, we thought it was just Hamden, so we want to hear why the town is divided, if it is," said Ross, who moved from Congress Avenue in New Haven last October.

"We are in the community now and want to lend a hand and get involved where needed."

Councilman Oswald Brown, D-3, said he is looking forward to the conversation and engaging the community.

"It's important to have these conversations to hear from residents of the town, particularly those in my district," said Brown. …
