On 14 Sept., ISNA and its partner faith-based organizations issued a "Joint Statement on Religious Expression in American Public Life," which has taken some two years to prepare. The statement was released officially by the Wake Forest Divinity School Center for Religious and Public Affairs.

The statement is in the tradition of earlier consensus statements that sought to state clearly the current state of the law, rather than advocate for what the law ought to be. It looks at religion in politics, the public square, the workplace, public holiday displays, and more. Written in a Q&A format, it is aimed at the general nonlegal reader.

Dr. Sayyid M. Syeed represented ISNA at the Committee on Religious Liberty, held on 14 Sept. 2009 in Washington in collaboration with the National Council of Churches of Christ in the U.S.A. (NCCC-USA). The next meeting will also be held there on 14 Jan. 2010.
