Settling beside the Sandhills

Greeley, Neb., is located just outside the southern-most edge of Nebraska's Sandhills. A scenic, semi-arid, mogul-contoured grassland that is nourished from underneath by a giant aquifer that stretches as far south as Texas.

Wildflowers and tangled brush proliferate in the area's meadows. Wildlife, from red-tail hawks and pheasant to mule deer and coyotes, drink in lazily winding rivers such as the Cedar and the Calamus. It's a distinctive area enjoyed by canoeists, hikers, hunters and bird watchers alike. Lately, more and more jet-setting denizens from Hollywood are turning up on vacations in the area.

The Sandhills area is also where Bill and Patty McQuillan make their home and raise their children. Greeley is where the McQuillans come home after traveling across the country as IBAA's first couple.

Bill McQuillan, president and CEO of City National Bank in Greeley, was elected IBAA president at the IBAA National Convention and Techworld in March. Patty McQuillan, who has traveled with Bill to many IBAA events over the years, says she is ready for a busy year as her husband takes on the community banking industry's top leadership position. …
