Toulouse-Lautrec: Exhibition Organized in Collaboration with the Albi Museum

Excerpt

The present exhibition of works in various media by Toulouse-Lautrec is presented under the combined auspices of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Philadelphia Museum of Art, with the collaboration of the Albi Museum. Aside from the large group of paintings and drawings from Albi, and two pictures lent by the Municipal Museum of Amsterdam, the exhibition comprises works owned by museums and private collectors in the United States.

In Philadelphia, the Catherwood Foundation has lent its generous support to this undertaking as it has to certain previous exhibitions of importance.

Carl Zigrosser, Curator of Prints and Drawings at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, assisted by Carl O. Schniewind, Curator of Prints and Drawings at the Art Institute of Chicago, has assembled the large and representative section of drawings, prints and posters, as well as the documentary material. The "cast of characters," which adds greatly to the interest of the works shown, has been prepared by Kneeland McNulty.

The Museums of Chicago and Philadelphia wish to express sincere gratitude to the many lenders for their great generosity and forebearance in parting with their treasures over such a protracted period of time. Indebtedness must also be acknowledged to Edouard Julien, Director of the Albi Museum, and to Georges Salle, Director of the Museums of France, who have endorsed the loan from their country. Directors and Curators of American institutions have been most helpful in securing loans, as have various individuals, among whom I particularly wish to thank Roland Balay, Richard Brown, Dr. William Russel Burwell, John Calais, Henry Sayles Francis, Ir. Vincent W. van Gogh, Thomas Hess . . .
