Behaviour Problems in Young Children: Assessment and Management

Excerpt

Many primary health care professionals have commented that there is a lack of a book that comprehensively covers the areas of pre-school children’s emotional and behavioural problems. This book aims to fill that gap. Its purpose is not only to provide an introduction to the recent research about the problems of young children and their families but also to provide a practical guide to assessing and managing these problems. The book can be used as a resource to further reading but is essentially practical in nature. Outlines are provided for assessments and interviews as well as details on a range of types of treatment methods. Case examples are provided in order to provide flavour and humanity to the text.

It will be a valuable resource not only for clinicians who advise parents on how to manage their children in their daily practice, but also for trainees of all health professionals who will be working with young families. The book can be read in conjunction with a new in-service training pack Emotional and Behavioural Problems in Young Children: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Identification and Management, Jo Douglas (ed.) (1988), Windsor, NFER/ Nelson, which is an active learning pack to stimulate discussion and treatment plans in the work-place.
