Excerpt

When I first met Jacqui, I remember being particularly impressed by her knowledge and understanding of the scientific, and not so scientific, aspects of infertility and its treatment. I was also amazed by her ability to articulate the roller-coaster of emotions and frustrations experienced by infertility patients. Throughout her long journey with infertility, Jacqui managed to develop strategies and coping mechanisms that helped her retain perspective, and continue to be optimistic and enthusiastic about her ongoing treatment. Thank goodness she decided to write this book!

As infertility specialists, we struggle to help our patients understand their infertility and to make informed decisions about management and we cross our fingers and hope that we are doing a good enough job. But I feel sure that, well-intentioned as we are, there are always some gaps left. There is no doubt that being wellinformed and having a sound understanding of the issues empowers patients and their partners to feel more in control of their condition, to make rational management choices and to be realistic about possible outcomes.
