Poland: A New Power in Transatlantic Security

This authoritative volume assesses how the recently democratized political system in Poland is adapting to the challenges posed by the country's adhesion to NATO which it joined in 1999. The contributors analyse Poland's performance as a newcomer to the task of providing transatlantic security.

One of the original objectives of Defence Studies was to produce special themed editions from time to time. Defence Studies Volume 2, Number 2 (Summer 2002) on Poland and Polish security in the twenty-first century, edited by Marcin Zaborowski and David Dunn, is the first such offering.

It is our pleasure therefore to introduce the first guest editors of Defence Studies and their special themed edition:

Dr Marcin Zaborowski is a Lecturer in European Politics at Aston University, Birmingham, uk, as well as an Honorary Fellow at the Centre for International Relations in Warsaw and in the Institute for German Studies at the University of Birmingham. His publications revolve around the two broadly defined themes: the International Politics of Central and Eastern Europe and the Politics of Transition in Central and Eastern Europe. He was a holder of the nato Academic fellowship on Transatlantic Relations and Polish Foreign and Security Policy'.

Dr David H. Dunn is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Birmingham, uk. His research interests include international security and American foreign policy. He is the author of The Politics of Threat: Minuteman Vulnerability in American Security Policy and American Security in the 1990s.
