Excerpt

This is the second edition of Divorce, and New Beginnings. The first edition, published in 1992, has been widely read by men and women who are divorcing, who have ended committed unmarried relationships, who are parenting in oneparent, homes, and who are living in a stepfamily.

This book has three goals: one, to provide you with a road map of what lies ahead, drawn from the experience of thousands who have weathered the rupture of their relationships and have started over again; two, to provide you with a repertoire of good coping skills so you can avoid many of the problems faced by so many others; and three, to guide your way in building successful new beginnings, both for yourself and your children, if you have children.

This second edition has a new richness. It is enriched both by the new insights arrived at by researchers during the past eight years and by the insights I have gleaned from my own work during these years with more than 2,000 families who are going through divorce and its extended aftermath, many of which have already formed stepfamilies, whether through marriage or living together. There are seven new chapters in this edition. As for the existing chapters, each has been updated, and enriched, and many new sections added.

As did the first edition, this book capitalizes on the flood of research findings reported across the country and the collective insights of hundreds, of experts studying divorce, one-parent homes, and stepfamilies. In addition to the 400 resources drawn upon in the first edition, more than 175 new sources have enriched this second edition. Be assured that this is by no means an academic report. It is a one-hundred-percent practical guide geared directly to your needs!
