Synopsis

From Conflict to Creativity offers leaders, managers, boards of directors, and team members a new way of thinking about conflict in the workplace. Within these pages, three experts in the field of workplace conflict resolution- Sy, Barbara, and Daryl Landau- present an innovative and proven collaborative model that can help resolve on-the-job conflicts and unleash the potential for creativity. Using the information and tools presented in this book can take any organization from a place that merely tolerates conflict to a dynamic environment that uses everyday differences to enhance creativity.

Excerpt

This book explores the link between conflict and creativity in organizations. It evolved from work that we have done in conflict resolution over the past twenty years, much of it in organizations. Many of our assignments involve helping work groups to resolve serious conflicts. People in conflict come to us seeking help in getting out of seemingly impossible situations. Rather than provide them with our answers to their problems, we engage them in a collaborative conflict resolution process that helps free them by opening their minds to new possibilities. In other words it helps them be creative.

Time and again what has impressed us is that, when they work together, even adversaries can be more creative than most single individuals could be on their own. Furthermore the solutions developed by the parties are more likely to be supported by the members of the group and therefore are more likely to be implemented successfully.
