Biblical Interpretation in Ancient Israel

First published in hardback in 1985, this prizewinning book offers the first comprehensive analysis of the phenomenon of textual analysis in ancient Israel. Professor Fishbane, who explores the rich tradition of exegesis prior to the development of biblical intertpretation in early classical Judaism, studies four main categories of exegesis: scribal, legal, aggadic, and mantological. He has also added new material in appendices to this paperback edition.
