Excerpt

The chapters of this book were delivered, in a somewhat abbreviated form, as the Rauschenbusch Memorial Lectures at Colgate-Rochester Divinity School during Alumni Week, April 18-21, 1933. Twenty years ago when on a brief lecture visit at Rochester Theological Seminary I first made the acquaintance of the late Professor Rauschenbusch. His kindliness on that occasion and his sympathetic reception of a younger man's message still remain a vivid and inspiring memory. It affords me genuine satisfaction to have the privilege of bearing testimony to my esteem for Professor Rauschenbusch and his work.

The lecturer wishes to avail himself of this opportunity to express his gratitude to the president, the other members of the faculty, and the alumni and friends of Colgate-Rochester Divinity School, whose generous hospitality toward the lecturer and his message will be long and gratefully remembered.
