Do Black Women Hate Black Men?

Excerpt

While no one will know for certain exactly what happened between Anita Hill and Clarence Thomas, their confrontation on TV before the Senate Judiciary Committee was a startling spectacle. Here was a black female law professor accusing a black male judge of sexual harassment.

The black community, though proud of these two distinguished black combatants, was bewildered by the sideshow antics of white U.S. senators on either side of the debate, with U.S. president George Bush siding with Judge Thomas. When the Senate voted fifty-fifty on the confirmation of Thomas to be associate justice of the Supreme Court, Vice President Quayle, with the deciding vote, clinched the confirmation for Thomas.

It was heady stuff, indeed, for Americans to see two blacks involved in the highest reaches of power in America. And while Judge Thomas may have won the political battle, Anita Hill won the emotional battle -- that of a woman (not just a black woman) who stood tall, fighting for her rights.
