This brief sketch of the theological foundations of the Christian ethic was prepared on the invitation of Bethel College (Kansas) to give the annual Menno Simons Lectures in 1959. The present text contains those lectures somewhat revised.

The Menno Simons Lectureship was established "to promote research and public lectures...relating to Anabaptist-Mennonite history and development, theology and practice, life and culture, or related subjects, both past and present."
