A fresh-scrubbed, blue-eyed, towheaded little boy with a cowlick that grew very much like his mother's, smiles out from Bill Gates's childhood pictures. The photos belie the fact that Gates was a superactive kid, always up to something. He repeatedly crammed himself into a box, then leaped out, measuring how much farther he could jump each time. In his teens and even later, he would suddenly spring up to touch tree limbs, door jambs, or anything overhead that caught his eye.
