"Fundamentalism" and the Word of God: Some Evangelical Principles

Synopsis

This modern classic by the author of "Knowing God" provides a comprehensive statement of the doctrine of Scripture from an evangelical perspective. J. I. Packer explores the meaning of the word "fundamentalism" and offers a clear and well-reasoned argument for the authority of the Bible and its proper role in the Christian life.

Excerpt

This book is offered as a constructive re-statement of evangelical principles in the light of the current 'Fundamentalism controversy'. Its aim is to fix the right approach to the Bible, to the intellectual tasks of faith, and to the present debate. If it does that, and if it helps evangelical Christians to understand their faith better and witness to it more effectively, I shall be thankful.

I owe a debt of gratitude to the Rev. R. T. Beckwith, the Rev. J. W. Wenham and Mr. O. R. Johnston for reading these chapters and making many suggestions for their improvement. Most of all, I must thank my wife for her patience and help.
