Shem, Ham, and Japheth helped to build the ark. They were a trilogy as in the Hindu deity, three kings of orient, gods and kingly men; the first, creation; the second, preservation; the third, whose hand linked with the first, destroyed to make again. All three were indispensable to Noah; Shem was very dear to him, Japheth, for whom he had the most respect, was always near to him, but with son Ham he had to keep his patience and go on from day to day.
