Saving America: Using Democratic Capitalism to Rescue the Nation from Economic Folly

Excerpt

There is no doubt the United States of America—well into its third century of existence—has many problems; some real and serious, others phony and distracting. Many of these problems have been created in the private sector and many solutions came, likewise, from that area. Government created some problems and many solutions were derived from government. Numerous problems were created by one sector and solved by the other. There should be no argument the nation has problems, but there also should be no argument the nation is benefactor to many conditions superior to conditions in most other nations. Angry Americans in the past quarter century have been inflicted with new or lingering problems while problems afflicting past generations have been solved.

It has been all too easy recently for Americans to blame all problems on the federal government while excusing themselves from any of the blame. In this age of victimization in which it seems most everyone is self-perceived to be victimized by outside forces, many Americans claim government has caused all their problems and has solved none while they are ever being victimized by politicians and bureaucrats. But the truth is that Americans— except those too young or otherwise incapacitated to be responsible—have created the nation’s problems through their collective will and/or actions. It has become much too tiresome to hear Americans blame government for being out of touch with them while they themselves remain out of touch with government.
