Excerpt

Since establishing Australia's first Multiple Pregnancy Clinic in 1997, I have been involved in the care of more than 500 couples expecting twins, triplets or quadruplets. My patients, both in the Multiple Pregnancy Clinic, and in my private Obstetric practice, have struggled to find adequate information resources for Australian women expecting a multiple birth. Thankfully, this is no longer the case.

Katrina and Louise have extensively researched the area of twin pregnancy and written with experience and good humour to produce the definitive guide to parenting twins.

Not only have they provided a much needed Australian flavour to the subject, but they have provided an invaluable resource to parents everywhere.

As well as providing a thoughtful and sensible guide to parenting twins, they have also confronted many difficult issues. the sections on coping with limited resources, foetal reduction and depression should prove particularly helpful for those faced with these situations.

The medical information is carefully and accurately presented and cleverly interspersed with parental experiences. the result is a book that is not only easy to read but is an excellent reference tool.

Twins: a practical guide to parenting multiples from conception to preschool should be compulsory reading not only for women expecting twins but their partners, family and friends.

Dr Mark Umstad Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Head of Multiple Pregnancy Clinic, the Royal Women's Hospital, Melbourne
