Excerpt

Owing to the exigencies of war-time printing, a part of the apparatus criticus, including notes on the text by Dr. Mabel Day and myself, and a study of the rhymes of the poems by Miss Marjorie Daunt, has been held over. They will be issued with the binding-case for the book when circumstances permit.

I have to express my acknowledgements to Sir George Hill, to Professor W. L. Renwick and Mr. H. Orton, to Miss Marjorie Daunt, and above all to Dr. Mabel Day for aid and constructive criticism.

Those who would like to know what sort of music Charles would have written for his roundels may be interested to learn that his music to a much later chanson has been published in what seems to be an accurate transcription by Mmes Droz et Thibault in Poètes et Musiciens du xv Siècle, Paris, 1924. There are also three chansons in a Spanish MS. unpublished.
