As we have said in the dedication the occasion for this book is the 70th birthday of Professor H. WAGENVOORT, which he hopes to celebrate on the 23rd of August 1956. HARTING, who showed great interest in our work.

Besides assistance in our task we must also acknowledge help of a financial nature. While still in doubt as to what support we could expect for our plan the PROVINCIAAL UTRECHTS GENOOT- SCHAP VOOR KUNSTEN EN WETENSCHAPPEN facilitated our initiative considerably by guaranteeing a certain sum of money.
