Excerpt

This book is a collection of essays written during the past years for seminars held for students and medical and analyst colleagues, as well as public talks and symposia on different themes related to the theory and practice of psychoanalysis. I have linked the different subjects together so as to give them the same continuity and uniformity as the course followed by my own mind. I wish to thank all the students, colleagues, and co-ordinators of meetings and symposia who pushed me to complete this work. Special thanks are due to Prof. Maria Teresa Fumagalli Beonio Brocchieri, who helped me to choose the original title and Ovid's verses; to Prof. Mario Montessori, for reading some of the chapters and for his precious advice; to Mrs Sania Sharawi Lanfranchi, for translating the text into English; to Miss Maria Cristina Sollazzo and Mrs Judy Baggott, for their valuable help in editing the manuscript.
