Economic Commentaries

The pieces here gathered together were all written in the years 1952-5. Except the first, all have been previously printed; the original place of appearance of each is indicated in footnotes, and my thanks are due for the courteous manner in which my desire to reprint has been met by those concerned.

I do not think anybody who is not fairly familiar with the jargons and techniques used by professional economists would be wise to attempt any of the pieces in Group I, even No. 4, which, though lighter in tone than the rest, is really the most esoteric. But I hope the pieces in Group II may appeal also to anyone who takes a general interest in economic affairs.
