It is just possible that we are yet going to have on this continent, vigorously and actively, something that we have been talking about for a few hundred years -- Democracy.

The hope for its implementation lies in a movement that for years has been growing without fuss or fanfare, quietly and steadily as all sound things grow. That movement, known as the Consumer Co-operative movement, has in its philosophy and structure the framework upon which the political philosophy of democracy may well be molded into a living, vigorous way of life.

Of late the growth of the movement has been spectacular. Year by year, especially as the system of distribution gets more and more out of hand, it attracts a growing army of members. Because of its rapidly increasing strength and vigor it has come under the fire of many businessmen. Because it is a movement on the part of consumers to undertake for themselves the distribution of the goods and services they require, many businessmen are feeling its impact.
