Alfred Marshall and Current Thought

Excerpt

The first part of this book reproduces with a few modifications the Marshall lectures for 1952 given in the University of Cambridge. The references to Marshall's Principles of Economics are to the 1910 edition. Where writings by him have been reproduced in the Memorials of Alfred Marshall I have given page references to that volume, not to the places where the writings originally appeared.

The second part consists of a statisticoeconomic paper on Problems of the Trade Balance. For this Mr. Stone, Director of the Department of Applied Economics in Cambridge, did much to hold up my hands, though of course he has no responsibility for what I have said. This paper has no connection with the Marshall lectures except that it was written at about the same time.
