Excerpt

The Executive Programs of the Graduate School of Business, Columbia University, under the leadership of Associate Dean Hoke Simpson, sponsored a Conference on Women's Challenge to Management at Arden House in the fall of 1971, attended by representatives of business, government, and universities. The conference was organized in the belief that the 1970s would see radical changes in the role of women in American management and that it was both the obligation and an opportunity for a graduate business school to assist in exploring relevant issues and to help in pointing the directions for action.

This volume contains the principal papers prepared for and the key presentations delivered at the conference, together with introductory and concluding chapters that frame the problem in broader perspective. This book is responsive to the promptings of the conferees that these materials be made more widely available to those in managerial positions in business, education, and government who must find answers to the challenges presented by women seeking entrance into professional and executive employment.
