THE OLD MAID

The scene is the city of New York, and the action begins in the 'Thirties of the last century and continues through five episodes into the 'Fifties.

FIRST EPISODE

1833 DELIA LOVELL'S room in her parents' country house, Lovell Place, at Avenue A and Ninety- first Street, overlooking the East River.

SECOND EPISODE

1839 CHARLOTTE LOVELL'S day-nursery in a room above the LOVELL stables in the rear of her grandmother's house in Mercer Street.

THIRD EPISODE

1839The JAMES RALSTONS' drawing-room in their house in Gramercy Park; that same evening after dinner.

FOURTH EPISODE

1853The same drawing-room; an evening in December.

FIFTH EPISODE

1854The same; an evening the following June.

NOTE: In the production at the Empire Theatre, the intermissions were after the second and third episodes.
