This book has been written because administrators, like ourselves, in colleges and universities are faced with mounting financial pressures and increased requirements for accountability. To meet these pressures and requirements, we must make our budgets go further and get more productivity from our faculty members.

This book is designed to show other administrators of higher education institutions how to use information management, planning, and resource allocation strategies to increase faculty productivity and make more rational decisions. the techniques we describe focus on specific outcomes to be achieved and management techniques to achieve them. What is new about the overall strategy offered in this book is its comprehensiveness and its applicability. It covers many techniques for managing any and all desired outcomes, and its approach has been tried on the firing line by working administrators, ourselves.
