Excerpt
At the time of my husband's death, he had completed all the research and writing of this book. He had not, however, arranged for the maps, done the final reading to check for accuracy of spelling, dates and highway numbers, and he had not completed the indices. I have tried my very best to complete these tasks with the care and precision that would meet his demanding standards of excellence. I hope with all my heart that I have done a job he would be proud of. But if any errors remain, they are mine.
