Communication and Culture: An Introduction

Excerpt

Communication and Culture is the first in a series of books that will deal with the complex and topical area sketched in by the introductory title. Many books have been written and are constantly being published on the subject of Australian culture. They range from the concerns of political scientists to those of sociologists, journalists, art critics, or cultural historians. The aim of this series is to draw on and to extend such work, and to bring the related categories of culture and communication into a sharper focus as areas worthy of intensive attention in their own right. Australian society is extraordinarily complex and culturally diverse, with all the multitudinous and often intractable problems attendant on such diversity. In bringing that richness and diversity to our attention the series will make its contribution to solving the problems of equitable participation in processes of communication in our society.
