Excerpt

William Inge: a Research and Production Sourcebook has not only been written as a useful reference guide, but also as means by which scholars and interested readers may gain a critical sense and understanding of the scope of William Inge's career and his accomplishments as a dramatist. Consequently, in addition to including an overview of his personal and professional life, a thorough and detailed annotated bibliography of theatrical reviews and other secondary sources, thoughtful summaries of the plays, and production/ credit information, the book also contains an essay for each play which carefully reviews its critical reception. Additionally, since Inge's most celebrated plays were enthusiastically embraced by Hollywood film-makers, when appropriate, some attention has been given to the screen adaptations of his work as well as the playwright's own accomplishments as a screenwriter. Finally, in an effort to make the information contained herein as accessible as possible, entries in the bibliographies have been coded for quick crossreferencing, and both author and general indexes have been included.
