Synopsis

Podgorecki examines the socio-political transformations that took place in post-war Poland, when the country was turned into an ideologically pre-designed "macro-social laboratory" by the Communists. The author asks, to what extent did the "historic and Marxist gift" of coercive changes result in the production of new theoretical concepts and perspectives, and to what extent was this unique sociological opportunity wasted?
