This year The Lakeside Press is publishing in the Lakeside Classics the memoirs of Antoine Lamothe Cadillac and Pierre Liette, two French officers who, during the late 1600's and early 1700's, lived peaceably with the Indians in the valley of the Mississippi from the Ohio River to north of Lake Superior.

Before reading these memoirs, it is suggested that one read the scholarly historical introduction by Milo Milton Quaife (to be found on pages xv-xxx).

At the close of the year 1947 we have substantially completed the expansion program upon which we embarked at the beginning of 1946. This expansion was necessitated by the increasing requirements of our customers and has resulted in an increase in our facilities of about 33%. It is represented by two new buildings in Chicago and the addition of 154,000 square feet to our plant at Crawfordsville, Indiana.
