Personality & Social Change: Attitude and Social Formation in a Student Community

Excerpt

There is scarcely a member of the Bennington College community who has not helped with this study. My colleagues of the Social Studies faculty have granted me Divisional funds for clerical purposes. President Robert D. Leigh and Professor Alvin C. Eurich, a part-time community member, have given me encouragement and criticism. The late Doctor Wilmoth Osborne spent many hours with me, amiably and acutely culling pertinent notes from student records, and more recently Doctor Joseph O. Chassell has given me equally valuable help. Gardner Murphy, Lois Barclay Murphy, and my colleague Dwight W. Chapman have read the entire manuscript and have made suggestions for want of which this report would have been much the poorer. Marie Louise Maguire was my ever-willing and indispensable assistant for two years while the study was in progress, her services being made possible by two successive grants-in-aid from the Social Science Research Council for the purpose of conducting the study. Jacquelin Griffiths and Marjorie Beebe gave valiant service in the final typing of the manuscript. Mary Shipherd Newcomb, my wife, has had a hand in almost every stage of the study.
