Your mother has proposed that I should put down for you some of my more significant experiences. This will be different from my book The Americanization of Edward Bok, which is largely narrative. There I refrained from expressing opinions. This means that in this book I may here and there become "preachy," as it is called,-- something that the public, as a rule, so dislikes, and which those who review books delight to condemn. But you cannot very well proclaim a thought, or draw a conclusion, or "point a moral or adorn a tale," without falling into the category of the preacher, can you?
