Milton Papers

Excerpt

The first paper and the Appendix of this book present the only deeds to property owned by the Milton family that have been found thus far, and the second article adds important details to those in the will of Richard Powell, father of the poet's first wife. Undoubtedly other documents of similar character lie undiscovered in the Public Record Office or elsewhere. The will of Edward King has not been printed hitherto, but the late John S. Smart knew of its existence. The other papers, on Comus, are fresh studies of materials long since known to Milton scholars but never examined intensively.

Grateful acknowledgment is made to the officials of the Bodleian, the British Museum, and the Public Record Office for aid in the gathering of these materials.
