Being about to start on a new national tour, it is my petition to my prospective audiences that they provide themselves with the illustrated edition of my COLLECTED POEMS before I arrive in town. I urge them to bring it to the lecture hall, not only to follow the texts as I recite them, but to follow the forty designs as I here discuss them. Begin with "The Village Improvement Parade," front and back end-pages, and also page 204; and follow it up with a careful study of "The Map of the Universe," frontispiece, and the poems which grew out of it.

The preface to the first edition of the COLLECTFD POEMS is entitled "Adventures While Singing These Songs." This might be called "Adventures With the Bottle Volcanic" (see drawing next to page 202), might be entitled "Adventures While Designing These Hieroglyphics." The first preface says that I am about to start on another reciting tour. I made the tour while the book was in the press, and being published. Later I toured the Western Capitals of Canada, as far north as Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. In the late winter the swing around the circle finally ended at Gulf Park, Gulfport, Mississippi, about which I have written many songs. This very preface is written at The Studio of the Driftwood Fire, at Gulf Park.
