Of Jane Austen's three volumes of juvenilia, 'Volume the Second' was published, as LOVE AND FREINDSHIP, by Messrs. Chatto and Windus in 1922, 'Volume the First' was published by the Oxford University Press in 1988. The series is now completed by 'Volume the Third', printed from the manuscript in the possession of Mr. R. A. Austen-Leigh.

This manuscript like its companions is (mainly) in Jane Austen's hand and is in a quarto volume. On the front cover she has written 'Volume the Third'. Inside the front cover someone has written in pencil 'Effusions of Fancy by a very Young Lady Consisting of Tales in a Style entirely new'.

On the first leaf J. A. has written 'Jane Austen--May 6th 1792' and . . .
