At the start of the session, the Presiding Judge makes public the following correction by Cardinal Faulhaber:

JUDGE NEITHARDT: (Reading)

Originally I had intended to wait until the end of the trial to correct the false accusations and attacks brought against me by General Ludendorff. However, since I have heard from several parties that any waiting on my part would be misinterpreted, I am issuing the following statement:

1. According to the Flugschriften der Völkischen Bewegung , (2nd issue, page 12), General Ludendorff was quoted in a press release as having said that Cardinal Faulhaber would support the plan for the consolidation of Bavaria and Austria. I have never even considered such a plan, and only heard of it through this press release -- which appeared while I was away on my trip to America -- from the trial.

2. According to the same source (page 13), General Ludendorff asserted that during my trip to America I had referred to the sinking of the Lusitania as being contrary to international law. At no time nor place while in America did I ever designate the sinking of the Lusitania as being contrary to international law. I will stand behind that statement against any and all subsequent misrepresentations by individual newspapers.
