Santa Barbara, California October 29, 1947

I AM VERY GLAD that I have been able to accept your kind invitation to be present as you undertake your work of constitutional revision.

As we look not only to the past but also to the future, we naturally consider the kind of state we would like our children and their children to live in during this next one hundred years. The constitution under which they are to live will determine very largely what kind of state it will be.
